Turning Sea Trash into Nail Art
Every year an estimated 22 million tons of plastic waste is dumped into the environment. Naomi Arimoto, a Japanese manicurist sifts sand for tiny bits of plastic that she uses as decorative tips on fake nails at her salon. Arimoto became a manicurist in 2018 when a spinal condition that she was experiencing led to her giving up her career as a social worker.
Arimoto recognizes that although her acts of reusing plastic for nail art are small, this is the beginning of working together for a solution.

Used Wimbledon Tennis Balls to Become the Homes for Field Mice
The Wimbledon tennis tournament goes through approximately 55,000 tennis balls annually. Although many of the tennis balls are sold to spectators they are now donating portions to conservation clubs across the UK, where they become homes for field mice. Field mice habitats are disappearing due to human activities and changes in the environment. Field mice have been known to play a vital role in their ecosystem by managing insect populations.

US Renewables Producing the Most Energy
Wind and solar energy are outpacing coal for the first time in history! This is a shift that will mark a turning point in U.S. history. In previous years solar and wind power were known to lead in the early months but then were overtaken by coal by the summer months. This rise of renewable energy comes at a crucial time in the United States as moving from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources is essential during the ongoing climate crisis.
